The advantages of handheld device:
It will be great if students can use handheld devices in the library, as the space of the library is definitely insufficient for installing many computers.
Handheld devices are relatively cheaper and easier to manage in term of storage than laptops. And it allows students facilitate their learning at any place at any time, especially during field trip. The high degree of mobility encourages the collaboration and the sharing of information among students. Furthermore the students and the teachers can present their works in more attractive way.
The limitation of handheld device:
Due to the screen size of PDA is really small, this limits the amount of information that can be displayed meaningfully, as a result, it is difficult for students to use a handheld in groups.
In a certain extent, the PDA hinders the achievement that can be brought by collaboration and project base learning, therefore, tasks should be specially designed to suit the use of handheld devices.
It is too costly for primary students to afford handheld device, beside that their IT skills aren’t mature enough to use handheld.
